Positive side weight...
« on: April 03, 2009, 10:20:51 AM »
I read on a drill sheet that I should leave at least 1/2 ounce positive side weight when drilling a flare hole.  Which side is positive?  Same side as the hole?

the side the cg is swung to is the side with the pos side wt...you being lefty it will be on the left side of the ball lookin at the ball..depending on where you put the hole you can slightly change the reaction of the ball...are you looking at a lane 1 drill sheet

No, it's an AMF drill sheet.  So if my positive side weight is currently at 3/4 ounce, that means that the most I should take out is 1/4 ounce?  Seems like such small hole wouldn't do much...

I was planning on putting it a couple of inches below my pap on the val...ball doesn't hook as much as I hoped in the heavy stuff.  I have such a weak release that I need all the help I can get!

I think the theory is to leave at least 1/2 side weight so IF a weight hole is need you can take out up to an ounce anf a half and still be legal. Taking out an ounce and leaving 1/2 ounce of negative side weight with a dynamic core is no big deal. I have 1 ounce negative side weight on a MoRich Solid Levrg and it can still flip enough to make  you wrench your neck watching it.

Anything within 1oz anywhere on the ball is legal, so with it being within the limits I wouldn't put an x hole in the ball yet.

I would first bowl with it a few times and see how it reacts and after you get a feel for it see if you want the ball reaction to be different.  Then add the x hole to tweak the reaction.

Positive side weight would be on the same side as your PAP.
