Calling out layout experts
« on: January 11, 2008, 02:52:27 PM »
A good friend of mine has a PAP of 6 1/8 x 7/8 .His track is clipping his thumb hole by an 1/8 of an inch. If he buy's a new ball what pin lenght & top weight would order and what layout recommendation would you suggest. Thanks in advance.

the first thing i would do is insist on a pin placement above a line drawn from his pap to his track. this should keep the ball from rolling over the thumbhole.

The pin is located at 45 above his ring. The Mass bias is a 1/2 right of his thumb. Can you elaborate on the drawn line from his pap to his track.

Agree with BrunsRicOH raising the bow tie is the answer I drill for a guy that has a similar PAP and always place pin very high about 1.5 inch above that imaginary line he does not flare over thumb now, the one thing I have noticed is that when he throws a bad shot poor release the ball does not react well at all so if your friend is very consistant in his release this will work but if not he will not be happy. Hope this helps.

BrunsRicOH, with the full roller layout, that would put the pin in his track.  What type of ball reaction would he get with a symetrical or asymetrical core ?  Also, would you recommend a agressive or no agressive ball ?

Just on a side note to what Ric said. My Pap is 6&1/4 over and 1&1/2 up.I have a track that clips the thumb hole a lot. I like the full roller drill that Ric suggested. It makes the track run between the fingers. Only difference for me is that I like to put the pin 2" to grip center. Now I do have slower ball speed(about 14 mph). The 3&3/8" pin to grip center is considered a leverage layout for full rollers but it hooks too much for me especially if the ball is aggressive by nature.Just another suggestion.
