In theory, I would like to build an arsenal that consists of mayby 9 balls to cover the gammit of conditions for both THS and Tournaments.

My theory is to have two shapes (arc and snap) with 3 different legnths.
Then to have two balls as my favorites and one spare ball that could also double as an ultra dry lane ball.

So my question is the layouts for the different reactions (arc vs. snap). Yes I realize that cover and core are the primary influenses in determining arc vs. snap. I do understand that 5.5x5.5 would produce snap and backend with length. Then I would assume 4.5x.4.5 would produce snap and backend with a moderate length.

But how do I promote arc using layouts?

Hey pin,

You're on the right track based off your own examples.  Placing pins closer to pap will normally (not always) produce a more even reaction because pin height is also another factor in this equation.  

Pin down balls (or closer to x-axis) will result in a faster spinning object which translates to less push and a quicker reaction to the lane surface.  A quicker reaction means it will expend more energy up front and not just store till the backend so overall movement becomes smoother and more gradual.

A pretty early and arcing drill is the old rev lev layout.  Hope this helps some..
