Can I ever get an Asym to work?
« on: March 09, 2007, 11:32:11 PM »
I'm a low-rev lefty who has never been able to get an asym to work. They always lope and won't start hooking. This comes after about 4-5 different attempts on different balls. Was going to try a new ball company (unnamed to prevent biased replies) and was told to get all negative weights so that the asym will lose tilt and rotation earlier. Now we get into the "statics don't matter" issue.

Two questions...
1. If I try one more experiment, perhaps throwing the MB way over past VAL, will that help?
2. When all is said and done, will I get a look that's different enough to be worth the effort?

Thoughts appreciated.
Thanks

I wasted a lot of money on assym cores that I just cnt throw. They dont match up with me so I just dont buy them anymore.

Seams like you wasted enough money on assym cores. Maybe buy a plugged used assym and test that layout and if that doesn't work, you got your answer at a much lower cost.

Lefty50,

Where have you placed the MB on previous layouts?  By kicking the MB past the VAL, you should see a very rolly ball.  What backend reaction are you looking for?

I think he wants something that arcs and assyms don't give you that on a consistent basis.  If you have a good hand they can definitely work but the pins you leave on the deck on a miss usually spells doom.  Stick with syms and it's easier to fix problems.

Sounds like I'm not the only one who doesn't like asyms... that's good to hear. Any suggestions for a strong sym? I love infernos, so the Fury comes to mind, but perhaps Special Agent... I think it's sym also and have heard good things...

Well every company has it's fair share of hook monsters so depends on what you want the ball to do.  I myself need to have a fairly tame one or I get the all or nothing results.  I've heard good things about the Total NV, The Shift or the Special Agent.

I actually have had bad experiences with most Assyms myself.  I just don't think STRONG assyms are good for lower rev players for the most part.  The only one I've  really had success with, and this is fairly recently, is the Mean Machine from Track.  I think that's partially due to the lower mass bias rating for that core.  Stuff like the Big Deal, Big One and Widow never worked for me all that well.

Mr. Lebowski, this is Bill Salnicker with the Southern Cal Bowling League, and I just got a, an informal report, that a member of your team, uh, Walter Sobchak, drew a firearm during league play. If this is true of course, it contravenes a number of the league's by-laws, and article 27 of the league...

Instead of buying another piece, how about working with someone to help increase your revs. This would open up a whole new market of balls. That's what I did.

Just a thought.............
