need clt drill help
« on: July 27, 2007, 01:04:36 PM »
I have a friend who is working in a pro shop and wants to learn more about this lay out. I thought I had info on it but don't. Anybody know how I can get some info on it. I have checked a couple sites and can't find anything, unless I am that stupid and can't find it there. Any help on this would be appreciated.

I have been playing with this layout for one of my customers.  Here is the info I obtained.
For a CLT, place thumb in ball w/ the fingers resting across finger holes.  Make sure that the arm is straight and the elbow is locked.  Draw the CLT line from the center point of the bridge down between the fingers.  Extend the line from the ball bridge center line down to the CLT line, to past the thumb hole using a Pro Sect.  Draw a line from the Bridge center (between finger holes) through the center of thumb hole for the grip line.  Measure distance from the finger to thumb and mark the center of grip.
PLace fingers in finger hole and place thumb halfway in thumb hole and mark both sides of thumb hole at half of thumb hole diameter.  Use the lines on the back of the customers thumb for reference points.
To determine finger degrees and thumb offset, place zero on the pro sect scale on the bridge center point. align the back of the pro sect with the center line of grip.  Read where the Clt line intersects on the degree scale on the Pro Sect to determine the degrees for fingers.  Example 13*
Measure from grip center line  at top of the thumb hole  to the CLT degree line to determine the offset number.  example 1/2 @ 13*
To determine the oval degree for the thumb, place pro sect scale zero in center of thumb hole, on the grip center line.  Use the thumb lines to align the pro sect with scale on the left side of ball.  Read where thumb line intersects with degree scale for thumb oval degree.
To use the CLT line for positioning inserts, place Pro Sect on CLT line with Zero on CLT line and at 90* angle to CLT line. Draw a reference line.  Turn grips to align for customer trial.

Thanks for the input. I will get this info to him and hope that it helps. I have been using this drill for a few years now and will not use anything else. I have tried to use a ball with the standard T grip and can't get out of the ball now.

Thanks, is the aim of it to have more of the ball on the palm?

shifts orientation of finger pitches down the natural finger line...

ie the line between the middle and ring finger.

Thumb goes normal spot in T grip as do fingers which just have pitches oriented down their NATURAL line.  Seems to be most valuable for those with over a 10 degree angle off the T grip line.

I don't like this grip myself but MANY do....  I find I get less revs! and turn.

A variation by Mo Pinel (who I have heard developed the CLT) was to just make the middle finger forward pitch and the ring reverse pitch much easier and I believe I remember him saying...("same thing").  Think about it....if one had 0 pitches to start and orient down a 10 degree CLT line they will end up with forward middle and reverse ring.

This slightly increases tilt they say and slightly lowers track I believe.
