Need help drilling 5 yr. olds ball
« on: March 05, 2006, 01:50:47 PM »
This little girl is cute as a button.....been throwing her fishy 6 lb VIZ A BALL without fingers two handed.  But now she wants to have "holes in her ball".  Her span is 2 1/8 " with a 5/8 thumb hole and 9/16 fingers.  I will drill her conventional and bevel the holes well to prevent soreness but my question is, should the holes be at zero or forward for fingers and or thumb....thanks, Al

PS>   It took me a while to convince her to let me take the ball with me to drill!

How do you typically drill a conventional ball?  It's been a long time since I was fitted for one, but I don't remember ever having my pitches measured.  Arguably, I wouldn't have known it if they did, but all I really remember was span.

Cute or not, she's asking for a conventionally-drilled ball.  How would you do that for a 15 year old?  A 30 year old?  Except for the fact that she'll hopefully be back in six months or a year to get it redrilled, I can't see anything that would make it special.

Just checked the pitches on my 6 pound mickey mouse ball from when I was 3 years old, and everything is zero forward or reverse.

Thanks everybody,  Yes the span is correct, I even verified using a house 6lb and put her thumb in and the marked the ball just short of her middle crease. Of course my measuring device doesn't go that short. I also found a 2 1/4 span ball that seemed too long. She was quite intrigued with all the measuring. The other item is that she is a lefty/righty so I will make both holes equal span and middle finger size for now...thanks all, Al
