my wife has a mars with the CG marked directly on top of the pin. Is there a viable layout for this ball to still hook well? and would changing the surface do anything to help?

As long as she has a more or less average PAP, you can put them right under the ring finger and the ball should be fine. You should get plenty of flare since the pin should be 4-5" from her axis. Be careful of moving the pin/CG too far right (assuming right handed) or else you might have a hard time making a large enough weight hole to keep the ball legal.

Just got my wife a new BURN with a very short pin to cg distance, about 1/4 inch maybe.
Drilled it just as strider said, and it flares pretty good. Clears the fronts just fine, and makes a very pronounced move at the breakpoint.

At 10lb''s the ball has a pancake weight block. Just use normal label shifts like you would on old school equipment. So for her most hooking ball i use old school "block weight. Grip center 2 1/2 inches left of cg and weight hole at 6 1/2 inches.

The guy who did the first drill, on it put the pin & Cg dead center of her grip in her palm. The ball does not do much as it is when she throws it. We have since moved her up to a 12 LB Cell and it is much better with a good drill on it but she wants to see if this Mars is worth re-drilling as another option for her, Especially since we found a guy who will re drill her cell to match her finger an thumb angles so she will need a ball to throw while he works on her Cell.

I'm not sure about Roto Grip, but several other ball companies use a generic dynamic core in their 12 and 13 lb balls, then go to a pancake core at 11 lbs and down. That may be why the Cell performs better for her. If you think she could handle a 13 lb ball MoRich balls have cores with the same shape and differentials as their heavier balls. I drilled one for my wife last week and it performed much better than the ball it replaced. And bowlingball.com has had some good deals on MoRich equipment ($69 delivered) on some of the discontinued MoRich balls. -- JohnP

My 15lb power swing has them on top of each other. My guy layed it out with the pin under the fingers and put in a weight hole. The ball clears the heads with ease and hooks like a power swing should.
