Title: Choice of ball for an axis layout.
Post by: axeweldr on April 02, 2010, 05:09:51 PM
I currently have a Neptune that is drilled axis.  Here is the major question, I am looking for a solid that is pretty strong to axis it.  Really enjoy the way that the Neptune rolls, just want something that can handle more oil.  There is one house I bowl in that just gives me fits, literally.  Lanes are very tight in the heads, and the back can really break down.  I just need something that gets into an earlier roll and just have a very predictable back end reaction,

I am thinking along the lines of Reign of FIre, Nomad Solid, or Riot.  Would like to stay symmetrical core.  Any type of input would be great.  If you can think of another current ball that might be a good choice please run it by me.

Since you've already had success with something with a moderately weak cover with that layout why not go with the Riot?

Using a ball that starts symmetrical will eliminate the additional component of deciding what to do with a moderately strong to strong pre-drilled PSA.  After all, there is hardly such thing as a symmetric ball once holes are drilled.

The Riot would be a smaller step in cover strength than the ROF or NS you have already shown interest in and it is usually easier to build an arsenal around one brand.

Coverstock type and surface texture are still the dominant factors in dictating whether or not a ball will match up with the condition you are seeking to conquer. Might be best to save a little money in the beginning and tweak the surface to get what you're looking for.
