Rico for a high rev player?
« on: November 06, 2008, 10:36:13 PM »
I need to drill a ball for a friend.  WE are bowling a tournament this weekend and everything off the spot on wet lanes tends to jump. His specs are 18 mph, 400 revs, PAP is 4 3/8 over.  I was thinking a pin slasher with a Rico drilling.  Any other sugestions?

Me: "These lanes are tight. I have 2 boards!"
My buddy with front 8: "Me too!"
Me: "Yeah, but yours both have arrows on them, and an arrow in between!"

Sean Rash uses this layout a lot for these types of conditions, to at least get him to another ball or layout. It is good at blending out the lane front to back.

When using the rico, or any other layout, drill the statics back to neg side and possibly some bottom weight for a less jumpy reaction off the spot. =:^D

Yes please, whatever you do, MAKE SURE you pay more attention to static weights and nothing else.

Size of weight hole, depth of weight hole and placement of weight hole. Finishing static weights mean nothing...ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.

And, if you do a "true" Rico (extra hole 6 3/4" from the pin), the extra hole will not be able to add any bottom weight to the equation.

But as the USBC is proving to themselves, and everyone else, static weights, while not absolute zero in affecting ball reaction and/or pin carry, are VERY LOW on the list of items that truly affect ball reaction (I believe they are 14th out of 20).

Variances in ball speed, release, trajectory, etc. override the affects that static weights have on ball reaction and/or pin carry.

Along with CONSISTANCY in shot making? Should that be added?
