Hey all,
I had a kid come up to me and ask if I could help him with his new ball. He said the ball was clipping the middle finger hole and he didn't like the thumping it was making. I asked if any of his other balls did this, he said no, and then proceeded to throw a few shots with his new ball and his old ones. I quickly noticed he was a high tracker. His other stuff was drilled with the pin height above his fingers. The new ball was drilled pin under. I figured that this was probably the contributing factor. Static weights were; 1 oz side, 1 oz thumb, and 1 1/2 oz. top. Could I put in a weight hole in attempts to pull it off the middle finger? If so where should I put it?
Tom

When you put a flare increasing weighthole in a ball it tends to raise the bow tie. I used to track high and on a pin down ball we put a weight 2" down from my pap on my val to take the side weight and thumb weight down as well as raise the bow tie to a point where I didn't track over my finger holes anymore.

2 inches where from your PAP? On the VAL, up or down, etc.?

AS far as I have learned, weight holes 2" - 2.5" either past your PAP or BELOW it will increase flare AND make the ball flare earlier. It will also raise the bow-tie for high trackers.
Weight holes 2.5" inside your PAP or ABOVE it will decrease flare. (I assume this will also lower the bow tie, but I don't recall that precise discussion.)
Weight holes need to be at least 7/8" wide and 2.5" deep, at least, in order to affect the core (not the static weights) and the ball's core's RG differential should be at least .040".
It appears that this ball's static weights will allow the proper sized weight hole.
Again, this information is what I have lerned, based on the teachings of Mo Pinel and others.

So which should I go with 2" down on val or 2-2.5" past the PAP? I've always heard the latter but I want to make sure.
Thanks for all the quick replies guys
