Lateral thumb
« on: December 10, 2009, 10:03:17 PM »
I believe in either the coke bottle test or the Bunetta pencil pick up.

They easily show thumbs at the different spectrum of the lateral pitch continuum.

The other day...my friend and I did the coke bottle test.  I point to my ring finger he points to his index finger.

At 0 lateral thumb drill he drags all the time on the inside of his thumb.
As a result he is going to 1/16 lateral out from his palm(left for a righty).

Me ...I recently tried 1/4 lateral under palm(I'm usually near 1/8) as a driller did not follow my instructions!

I thought I would hate it.  Instead I have felt a much strong or more behind the ball position at the top of my backswing(or should I say more loaded) instead of my usual almost full roller on the side of the ball at the top of the backswing.  This feels like it allows me to make a more positive rotation thru the ball to apply my release at the proper flat spot!  I have always been a believer in very positive movements in sports to work for general daily techninque and for holding up under pressure.  Holding off!  Seems to lead to trouble under pressure.

I have talked to Deadbait on this site about this and he has mentioned that this lateral reverse and under for the thumb can get one close to the area creating release of the no thumber while still having your thumb in the ball!!

Anyway...if your thumb calls for it(like mine does)....try it!  You might like it!

Regards,

Luckylefty
PS I'm anxious to see how my buddy does with his lateral out!

Same idea.  Where does your thumb point in relation to your fingers when closed around a cyndrilical object.

Many would put you at 1/8 thumb pointing at middle finger!  1/4 is between middle and ring.  Ring is 3/8 right.

I am right near ring...had been using 1/8!

1/4 is giving me a more open hand and more wrist cup held longer.

Looking or feeling to me more like one of my friends who is one of the original 240 bowlers in the country and still rips up house shots and tough shots anytime he wants!

Not there....but like the feeling!
