Pins 1-2 1/2" from PAP
« on: July 07, 2004, 06:58:26 AM »
I've got a couple of balls i'd like to put these lower RG drills on(Rock Pearl and Blue Triton) The house shot shot i bowl on on is oil to 30ft and i'm guessing buff to about 35ft.  I have a lot of trouble with balls either jumping too hard off the back of the pattern only to skid too far and leave 2-10 or washout when i try a little more speed. The saying goes you can't out execute bad ball reaction so would a visit to the drill press help cure my problem?

The Rock Pearl would be a good ball with that sort of layout....but I would not keep the ball polished. I would wetsand it down to about 1000 just to tame the breakpoint. If you leave the polish on the ball it will still reaction too strongly off of the dry.

Sounds good to me, i was going to to this with these 2 balls when i got them but ended up following the high RG drills the old owners had on them, after seeing their reactions over a few months i now know why they sold them! I'm wondering now how my on the way Code Red SE's and Heat2 pearl would work with these lower pin layouts?(maybe a pearl Pulse too, i like the sound of ALL of them now i think about it!)

As far as balance hole placement goes what do i get reaction wise from

a) hole on PAP, or
b) hole 2" past pap

(assuming i haven't got a too high starting top weight of course, which i'll check before its drilled)

I have a Hot Rod drilled like this, it works well on short patrerns like "E". When the heads go put it down.

I'm off to the shop tomorrow, probably go with  2 1/2 from PAP for my pin placement. This reaction with this drill was a little squirty on the Coral because of its longer skid, a little stronger than i wanted sometimes on the Elite Pearl due to that balls strong move so on the shorter than the Coral, weaker than the Elite Blue Triton it should be a perfect fit. All these balls were pin in too, had no trouble drilling the other 2 so i'm in well charted territory as far as jamming a hole in the side and deepening the fingerholes goes. The Rock has a 3 1/2 pin so just doing a label drill with the pin swung around to 2.00 should do the trick there.

Here's an idea i've got for the Rock Pearl, pin 2 1/2 from PAP on the VAL. I think it would give me a stronger look in the mids with a strongish arc on the backs. Sound good?
