Within the last couple of months my driller has had two balls crack across the bridge.  One from storm and one from hammer, both balls were drilled with a 1/4 inch bridge with 3/8 pitch and beveled holes.  Neither company would honor the warranty stating the bridge had to be more than 1/4 inch wide.  Are there others out there with this problem.  I can't handle a 3/8 inch bridge(rubs a blister on my finger), he is going to drill my next one at 5/16.  Any ideas on how I can adjust my span to offset the wider bridge.

Do you use slightly stretched spans? If the bridge feels too wide when its wider then 1/4 inch, maybe shortening your span a little bit will help.

I don't know if you mean bridge cracked during drilling.

I've never had that happen!

Or,

If you are saying they cracked after drilling once you were using.

I have had that happen!  The only time it happened was on a ball I did not setup.

I ALWAYS make sure that I give all finger hole edges a real good hand sanding and round off the lip.  PARTICULARLY on the bridge sides!

Since the one crack above(which I noticed was a sharp edge).  No Bridge cracks!!!!

charlee323 -- Do you use finger inserts?  If so, your actual bridge is about 1/2" now, since the thickness of each insert is about 1/8".  In that case, you might try a thicker bridge without inserts.  I drill with 1/4" cut to cut bridge and have only had one bridge crack out, and the distributor I buy from honored the warranty, even though the ball did have inserts.  The side pitch is the only one that might affect the bridge.  I use 1/4" left on the MF and 5/8" right on the RF (right handed drill).  Did your driller repair the finger crack for you?  --  JohnP

actually it wasn't my ball, he ate the cost of a new ball for both people; this is why he wants to drill 3/8"; I am just trying to work with this, so I do not have to change drillers again.

Sometimes crcked bridges are from the finger holes not being pitched away from each other.  Other times it happens when a ball's internal temperature is not the same as the outside so the inner core expands and causes the shell to crack. If the finger holes are not bevel sanded they can crack. If you glue grips using cyanoacrylite glue aka superglue a small drop will do just keep it below the surface about 1/4" and not close to the bridge side.  

In twenty years of bowling and drilling balls I have only had one bridge crack on me and that was a 10 lb ball that was left out in the extreme tempertures of a trunk and garage floor.
