MB- Which is more important?
« on: November 03, 2005, 07:14:52 PM »
When laying out a ball with a significant mass bias, is the distance from the PAP more important than the actual position in relation to the track, VAL or thumbhole?  If I had to make a guess, I would say that both are important, with the actual distance from the PAP moreso.  My reasoning is that depending on the distance you place it, it will generally fall into one of the previously mentioned  locations.  If that didn't make any sense I apologize for not being able to verbalize my reasoning.  Any comments on this will be appreciated.

Don,

Precision gave you the precise answer.

I'd add, in direct reply to your question, NO, the distance from MB to PAP is the determining criteria, for MB relevance. If you placed the MB "precisely", then thought, "Gee, it's too close to the thumb," and decided to move the MB, you'd be wrong and you'd be changing the reaction. This concept is just as important when you have an inverted track (2nd dimension of PAP is a "down" from the midline number); if the MB is too close or even to the left of your thumb hole (for a righty) as determined STRICTLY by measurement of distance from PAP, then stick with it, IF it is THE correct distance from your PAP, according to the reaction you desire, BASED on the manufacturer's drilling instructions!!

Believe me, I have experimented painfully, expesnively and long & tediously with some of these pin & MB distances from PAP on asymmetric cores from Track and MoRich.

Here is a rule that applies to myself........ "Don't place the MB any further from the PAP than what your PAP is."...... For example, my PAP is 4 3/4 over 1/2 up, so I can't place the MB any further than 4 3/4" from the PAP and expect good results.

I can't speak for others, but it is a rule for me. I believe it may work though for people like myself that have weaker releases and "not a lot of hand."

charlest, i need your help then, im in the midst of going through that, im trying to find out what gives me the best reaction, so im experimenting with the mb placement, all my balls are asymmetric with huge differentials .062 to be exact. can you give me some tips?

Depends on the intermediate differential.
I am probably not the best person to work this out for you, but I'd be glad to give it a stab. PM me.
