thumb pitch
« on: March 30, 2009, 03:06:57 AM »
I've been experimenting with my thumb pitches and was wondering the effect of right thumb pitch (towards the palm)  as oppossed to forward to help keep from losing the ball early in the down swing??

hwest2....

This topic comes up often on this site and everyone has a different opinion in most cases. You did not tell us what your previous pitches were. As a general rule, thumb right lateral pitch to the palm and also forward pitches will keep you in the ball longer. Reverse pitches and left lateral away for a right hand bowler, will make you come out of the ball a lot quicker. If you are just just trying to keep from losing the ball in the down swing, forward pitch should take care of that. I contend that comfort is the key as to how much you need to go forward pitch. I am still experimenting with my pitches and I would suggest go with 1/16 or 1/8 at a time until you hit a good feel without any discomfort. I hope this helps some.
