different grip for spare ball

Thumb slug/holes get damaged with every spare ball I've own. I thought about going no thumb slug but that feels weird. I use an IT, but don't have it on a spare ball due to this issue. I roll end-over-end and it thumps down the lane. I roll with my normal release and it still thumps down the lane. (I have low tilt)

Would going to a tweaked grip somehow help?

Storm Mix (which I believe is urethane)?  Probably more durable than a true plastic.

I think you should stay with the same grip.  Good Times (above) offers a realistic solution.

Another vote for the Storm Mix or Rotogrip's version, the Bullseye.  Motiv also has the Artic Sniper and other manufacturers may offer urethane meant for spares and not strikes.  Storm originally came up with this concept because they believed urethane was more durable than plastic.  They go just as straight (for me anyway).  I am also a low tilt player, so I feel your pain.

Yes it is very important to use a different grip as your strike ball has 7 board of error but your spare ball only has 3 boards of error.

i use a natural pearl for spares. i completely take hand out of it and go end over end. i have an IT installed but rarely take out the slug. no issues with damaged holes in 5 years
