Title: DIY pap measuring

My old driller told me my PAP was 4" over, but I measured my own a few weeks ago and came up with something like 4-1/4 over and 1/2 up or down. I can't remember exactly. I did it by tracing my track line that was closest to the fingers and then put it on the spinner to where the line was spinning even at the bottom and then took my grease pencil and held it at the top dead center of the ball. That should be my pap. Correct?

You have to use the oil track that is closest to your thumb and farthest from you fingers, that is the release track.
As the ball flares the track migrates away from the thumb and towards the fingers.

ok. I measured it from a high flaring ball. Morich WMB to be exact. I think I have read here before to use a plastic ball, but for some reason my track looked to be almost on top of the fingers on my plastic. On the WMB and any other high end ball the track is a good ways from the fingers or thumb.

This is my opinion and maybe it's only mine, but -

You're grieving over an extremely fine line of demarcation. 1/4" left/right and 1/2" up/down will not make a significant real world difference under any circumstances. Release variability will be more than that through a 3 game league set. Unless you're averaging 235 across 3 different centers and ready to enter the next PBA tournament, relax and use either of them. 4" x 0" is simplest. Yes, even with an asymmetric core, you're not talking about real-life differences.

Charlest, I realize that this small of a difference will probally not make alot of change to the eye of a amateur, but I just wanted to know if I was making the measurements correctly.
