"down" PAP question
« on: January 18, 2004, 06:26:42 PM »
My PAP is 5.3/8 over and 1/16 "down" from the center of my grip.

My friend told to me that "down" should correct to "up" .

Is "down" abnormal

there was an article by Denny T in BTM last year about inverted ball tracks. he say's they are preferred when excuted properly.

they Happen with an early thumb exit and preasure from the base of the fingers.

so if they are executed proply it's a good thing.

BTW mine is 1/4 to 1/2" down. I am not a cranker. I have no problem reading the ball. I have no problem with heavy oil.

I prefer when I start tracking down to the 1/2". smaller ball track so it will clear the heads better and not stand up so quick as when I have tighter track.

my track is usually around the fingers a 1/4 inch and moves away( down) by the thumb. from about 1/2" to  1" inch.

"down" is NOT abnormal.  As a matter of fact, I know a few good bowlers that are trying to learn to get their track inverted and lower because it'll get through the heads better.  My PAP is right 4 3/8" and down 5/8"! Many have tried telling me that I throw a spinner - but my track was ever bit as large as theirs (circumference-wise).  I am really trying hard to get down the best ways to drill my equipment because hardly anyone ever shows any drill patterns for those of use who track like that.  Denny T sent me an email with a book on "degree" drilling.  I've sent to the company he recommended as carrying it to see if they still have it and how much it is!  He also said that my drills would look quite a bit different than most, to get the same reaction!

hskrntx,

As one who varies from a "down" PAP (the track is called "inverted'), to a "0" or neutral PAP, your drillings will be slightly different, in some cases. 99.99% of the people will see nothing different; only you should know how they are different.

JK300P,

Your PAP is not abnormal, just not average or run of the mill. On eof the finest coaches ever and one of THE most knowledgeable bowling experts alive on the planet, Tom Kouros once said that a crankers best AND Safest tracks was inverted, that is, with the up/down measurement of the PAP being negative.

Just use the degree drillings, NOT The clock drillings. The degree ones are accurate.
