Title: DODO scale vs digital

Has anyone here tried checking side, top, weight with a digital scale? At a digital scale site there were scales accurate to .005 ounce. The price seemed pretty reasonable. I'm assuming the DODO scale at Jayhawk is very expensive. It seems it would be possible to make a setup with one digital scale that would do everything needed, but I've been wrong before.

There are digital scales available to do the job, most manufacturers use them.  But I think they are even more expensive than a Kaufman balance.  Remember, you are trying to determine the difference in weight of two sides of a ball that weighs up to 16 lbs accurately to 1/8 oz.  There was a thread several months ago regarding making a digital scale at a lower cost, but the person that was going to do it never came through.  --  JohnP

hi moon57,

i haven't tried, but i do use a kaufman in my shop.  if i'm not mistaken, the digital scale by jayhawk is considerably higher in cost than the kaufman.  you can obtain a kaufman(new) for under a $1000.00.  but the digital will cost you approximately $3500.00.
