does adding tape in the back of the thumb act as if u are adding a touch of foward pitch????

No! It just snugs up the hole, no pitches are changed. This can be verified with a pitch gauge.

if your thumb hole isnt the same diameter all the way around it will change the pitch no matter where you put the tape.

I have no verifying of this, but it just makes sense.

The pitch of the thumb hole is determined by the front edge. You can put a straight edge into the hole and it will read the true pitch, regardless of what you have done with bevel. Likewise, the back of the hole does not even enter into the picture! You could open, carve, grind, any shape to the back of the hole you wanted and the true pitch of the hole(determined by the front gripping surface) would not change. You may be changing the shape of the hole, but not the pitch.

No it does not. Pitch is the angle of the hole in relation to the center of the ball. Putting tape in the hole does not change that angle

the reason why i ask is when i added a piece of tape in the back if feels like my thumb cant angle back as much which keps the ball on my hand a little better thus makings me wonder if the pitch was compermised i need more foward in the thumb im sure but i waswondering if this was just a cheap fix for the stuff i dont want to spend all the money on to redrill but as u guys just confirmed i guess not

my advise to you is, thumb hole fit is very personal no 2 are the same. If putting tape in the back feels right then just do that.

Actually, by definition, pitch is the distance the CENTER of the extended hole would be away from the center of the ball.  So anything that changes the location of the center of the hole does change the pitch, one direction or the other.  But adding tape to the back of the hole, IMO, does not change the FEEL of the hole.  I think the feel is determined by the front side of the hole.  --  JohnP

You are absolutely correct JohnP. I was just trying to convey the idea in the simplest way to understand. The center of the hole at the center of the ball is what determines the pitch.
