Pinel's layout for Baker
« on: September 15, 2007, 08:59:40 PM »
Hi everyone,

Like Tom Baker, I too have a high tilt, low track and slow speed. Whilst I appreciate that ball selections and layouts don't make a great bowler, and what works from him doesn't mean that would work for me. There's certainly no harm in experimenting... I'm refering to an article about Baker in this months' BJI.

Quote BJI Sept 07'(Page 57):
Pinel had Baker drill asymmetrical balls with the pin 5-5 1/2 from the PAP, and the CG and MB only 2" from the PAP(which mens the pin is well above the fingers and close the VAL).

I'm very eager to try this out. Could somebody expand on this? If the CG and the MB BOTH need to be 2" from the PAP then does it mean that there is a certain pin out ball required? Also, with what's described above, I don't think it automatically means that the pin is near the VAL, in fact when I first read it, I was picturing the pin being on top on the middle finger(RH) and MB on/near the VAL?(since the pin height from midline is not specified)

Would those who understand share the wisdom?

Many thanks.

I think that article is very confusing.

I would contact Mo's technical team thru his website to see exactly what was meant.

Especially regarding pin position and particular pin out ball.

Mo's Site

Even a phone call...they are VERY helpful.

I don't know if Fred is still there but he was great!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who finds that article confusing. I knew it was a long shot but I was hoping that someone might understand. Thanks LuckyLefty, I'll try contacting people at Morich.

Since Baker was using symmetrical balls as well as asymmetrical, I think that statement should have read,
"the CG OR the MB should be 2" from the PAP".
Since the CG in asymmetric cores is totally ignored, especially by Mo, he would never have said both had to be 2" from the PAP.

I think the point of the change was to get the ball to rev-up early without hooking early and to get into a strong roll to kick out corner pins. Bakes' spin shots often can leave loads of corner pins on heavier oils.

Sometimes I wonder why I bother posting at all ... It can't be of any value.

Unfortunately there is no contact email address. I tried all day again today. There's not a soul in the company.

Well I guess this secret layout will be buried between Baker and Pinel....

Thank you Strapper_Squared, I was really looking to speaking Fred..

I'll email them. Hopefully they'll get back to me when they're back in the office. I must say, it's much easier to discuss layouts over the phone than email.
