Title: Down Measurement For PAP
Post by: erh300 on November 13, 2007, 06:11:01 AM
How many here have a down measurement in their pap coordinates (i.e. 5" over by 1/2" down)? Is there a difference, generally speaking, in ball motion between an up measurement and a down measurement? Thanks for the help.

here! (5" over by 4/5" down) I throw it 2 handed though and don't know about the exact effects on ball motion. Actually all I know is it inverts your track.

mab -- You've got it backwards, track closer to the fingers than to the thumb is a down vertical component.  --  JohnP

dont forget the drill pattern on the ball can influence your track...not sure what you guys are throwing, but if the pin is below fingers and its a higher performance ball, it will tend to drag the axis down. You should only look for your axis on a low flare ball(plastic is best). Just wanted to trow that out there so no one gets the next ball drilled with wrong pap.

I've had the same problems with ASYM equipment and PAP location.... good call.

It is extremely difficult to get an accurate PAP location for a customer with high revs who is using a ball with an aggressive core.  The ball begins flaring before it ever hits the lane if he lifts it out.  Even if he lays it down smooth, you have to watch the tape in the first 5 ft.  For some reason it seems the first couple of flare rings don't show up.  Maybe the oil is burned off the lanes in the laydown area, I don't know.  But when I'm dealing with this type customer, I locate the first rings I can see, then mentally add one or two more when setting my Armadillo.  That usually comes out about right.  The initial track ring, and thus the PAP, is strictly dependent on the release, but the flare will throw you off if you're not very careful.  --  JohnP
