Modifying the Dual Angle Degree Layout system

Ok, so I'm reading and completely understand the system:

I think it's very cool and while the layouts do look funky, they do what the descriptions say they do.  I was tinkering around, layout out every possible scenario for my PAP (4 1/2 ->, 5/16 ^) and all of my layouts for my "flare safe angle" of 55 degrees end up with the pin 4"+ over the midline.  I was wondering how well and strong they would read the mids with pins that high?  Modifying the secondary angle seems to change the distance of the pin above the midline, is there another chart or system to use that would explain the differences in the secondary degree reactions?

Hey DJ

What pin-PAP distance are you looking at?

I would say that if you can't avoid having such a high pin then you're going to want to pick something which rolls early, like an NVS or a secret agent if you want something that's going to read the midlane a little better.
I've got an impulse zone with a high-ish pin, I haven't measured but it must be around 3.5-4" maybe which rolls a little early if anything.

Check out Mo Pinel's article in this month's Bowlers Journal. His system is a modification of the Dual Angle Layout. It covers that very question better than any of us could.

DJ's problem is the same think i am seeing this flare safe layout does not allow for pin under drilling, I laid out per my pap and the only ones you can get under the finger line are 1 or 2 inch pins, I personally like pin to pap in the 4-5 range but sometimes dont want that pin above drilling, all this drilling does is move the mass bias around.  If I am looking at it correctly all it does is shift the mass bias, doenst change pin locations in relation to fingers at all

As I understand Mo's system, the first angle sets up the mass bias placement/angle and the second one sets the pin distance from the VAL. In the Turbo system, the second angle is always the same based on your PAP.
This is of course, a very simplified explanation.

no you are right that is exactly what the prosect one does and since it sets your val to pin/pap angle it always keeps the pin in the same spot thus only moving the mass bias

What changes your pin location on a drilling is how far from the pin to pap on the drilling angle.

should be if you choose a lower degree (10-30) you will see the pin lower.
