Hamburger
« on: December 13, 2005, 02:46:46 AM »
I posted this in wrong forum.

Proper place now I think.

I'd get in to the business if there were any money in it!

Ball drilling that is!

But in our area all the guys are either alley employees or parttimers!
A few friends have started doing it as part time income from their homes.

I just don't have the time.

A local guy out of his house does a lot of the guys at our local alley.
His general prescription is near 0 forward reverse and a slight amount of lateral out. The local condition is so wet dry that for a lot of guys it seems to cut down on their side roll just right and they do pretty well.

One of his favorite guys had tried this and they came to me and said..."take a look at this and see what you think".

My answer...."hamburger"?

I said where's it hurt? His answer where doesn't it? They were very gracious and just said "we heard you might have some ideas to help".

We did the normal set of tests and ended up thinking it was just sort of a normal hand...using a little too much span. Having a pretty rigid thumb flexibility and having a more traditional thumb under palm lateral than the local prescription of 1/4 left.

Steps taken were shorter span...leave slight reverse alone as span was going shorter(or add just a smidge..1/16) and go slightly right from strongly left.

I saw them the next week. I asked them...how's it look....their answer..."no hamburger....just butter!". They said...."we just changed one and threw a half game and we knew....came back and changed 9 balls!"

It's like butter.

Not much money in it i don't think, but fun! I saw him throwing....Like Butter!

PS it is not an always prescription fo mine that one must always be under palm lateral pitch! This guy really could not go left though!

Every bowler's hand is different!  There should NEVER be a "standard" or "general" set of pitches to use for everyone!

No secrets...just things I've talked about before.

Coke Bottle test, flexibility test, picking up pencils off table test.

Then for actual span...you know stetched hand where is middle of last two joints.  Any wear on fingers side front or back versus current pitches.

Also for thumb pitch...where does arm swing in relation to initial ball path!

The watch for timing sequence of thumb fingers.  Thumb in too long...fingers in too long.

This guy had a nasty looking thumb.  Nail corner damage.  Back of thumb damage.
Hand went inside of initial ball line at moment of release a tad then tried to fake finish on ball line.

So by a shortening span and leaving reverse the same we got thumb out cleaner and earlier. Leaving ball travelling on fingers alone for a little longer. Adjusting for his anatomy pitch under palm right now his arm swings slightly on and out towards gutter in releation to initial ball path.

Much like an inside out swing in golf!

Butter.
