That little old Robbie's
« on: September 30, 2005, 04:27:39 PM »
I loved that sucker the first year I bowled.  And for a first year guy I bowled surprisingly well I think!

Since then I've used a bunch of others.  As I shortened my span from TOO long and thumb damaging to "Proper" the Robbie's seemed to shoot the ball off my thumb too quick.

i think I solved that.  It involved having an improper span difference between my fingers.

Now that I think I have solved that the ball is back to staying on my hand better than ever with the Robbie's and it again has that powerful firm feeling with the fingers!  With it I feel like I have steel fingers.

With other good wrist braces like the Mongoose Lifter (which I still like) I don't quite get this super firm feeling. I don't understand why but I just don't quite get it!

This firmness seems to give me about an hour and a half(slight exageration) to adjust my release at the line!

LL--Which Robbie's are you speaking of....the Original?  If so, in my mind it is not as restrictive as the Mongoose Lifter.  I would think that the Moongoose would make you feel like your fingers were made of steel not the other way around.

Surprisingly no.  Yes the original Robbie's.

My own theory is that I've been known to cup a little and then flatten out without the brace.

I think the Mongoose still lets me do a little of that.  Original Robbies I use not at all because of front metal piece...Only a guess!

Take the metal piece out.  I find it works better that way.

It's my belief and only my own that today's modern player wants no cup or lift on the ball.  I abandoned the lift.......old urethane release few years back.

Most important issue in today's modern game is control the backend.

Believe it or not I can change release even with a very restrictive Striker support.  What the Mongoose and Striker type supports give you is a very flat neutral release non-cupped.  For me this works very well in getting the ball thru the heads and controlling the backend.  Neutral is the key.

I believe the front metal piece is the factor which gives me such satisfying finger firmness...Take it out???
