Thumb pitch and slugs
« on: May 23, 2007, 02:39:38 AM »
I recently had a new spare ball drilled up with a different grip.  My driller mentioned that my middle finger span was a little long on my old stuff, so we shortened it a 1/8.  I also mentioned I'd like to try and go more forward on my thumb pitch.  Right now it's at 1/4 reverse, and I have a tendency to squeeze the ball, and will occasionally come out too early.  We ended up deciding to zero it up.

I went out and threw the ball for a few games, it definitely feels different than my other stuff.  More secure you could say.  The only thing I'm worried about is that it seems to have killed some revs.  This is on a spare ball, so no worries there, but if I try this pitch on my other stuff and don't like it could a slug just be changed out to get it back to 1/4 reverse?  Or would he have to plug and redrill?

A thumb slug should be enough - there are bigger versions available, so that the pro shop just has to drill the original hole a bit bigger, install the bigger block and drill the new pitches - unless the overall hole diameter is too big for this treatment. But I'd ask for this solution, it is quickest and cheapest, I'd say.
