Another RICO Layout question.....

OK... So I just picked up a 900 global S75 and the specs aren't actually close to what the desired RICO layout specs should be.

The Ball is 15.4 oz/PIN is 4"/Top Weight is 1.34oz

Would this still be ok?

My specs are (if it matters):
PAP 4 3/4 over 3/4up
17-18mph qubica
medium Revs

I had an original Break w/ a RICO layout and it was a monster. I wanted to put it on the s75 to see what it'll do.

With that amount of topweight, it should be fine.  To get a truly RICO drilled ball, the pin is in the grip center and the cg is at a 45 degree angle into the positive thumb quadrant of the ball.

 Then, measuring 6 3/4 inches from the pin through the cg, add an appropriate weighthole.  With only 1.34 oz of beginning topweight, you would only have to drill out less than 1/2 oz to make the ball "legal", and might even want more out of it than that to get the desired reaction.

 The weighthole is actually designed to alter the symmetry of the core and make it stronger and, if I understand it correctly, the more you take out of the weighthole, the more you change the reaction.

  You might message justrico (Ric Hamlin), who the drilling is named after, for verification, but I'm 99% secure that what I'm saying is correct.

You should be fine with these specs.
Start with a 7/8" bit X 2" deep at first to see how it reacts and then adjust from there. Go bigger for more flare.

Mr. Hamlin,
On the site (Brunsnick.com) it mentioned that on asymetrical balls you do not like drilling into the MB and should measure 1 1/8" up towards the pin and then drill the weight hole there. Is that correct?

  Just thought of something.  The S75 is asymmetrical ( having a marked mass bias).  Being such, the cg IS NOT the relevant point, the marked mass bias IS.

  That being said, to set up an asymmetric ball with a RICO requires the marked mass bias to be placed at 45 degrees from the grip centerline, leaving the cg to fall where it may.

  Hopefully, you have a ball with the pin, cg, and mb all in line. If so, there is no problem. If, however, the cg is FAR out of line, it could be problematical.

  Ric can answer all your questions adequately, I just happened to think of this fact and thought I would bring it into the conversation.

Every mass bias ball I use this lay out with, if a weight hole is necessary (in asymmetrical core balls the mass bias represents the weight hole-so weight holes are not as important, at the start, as in symmetrical cores), I put the weight hole in the mass bias.

Yes. The pin-CG-MB are inline or at least within 1/4" within each other. If I draw a line pin to MB and use that as my measuring angle, I still need to lace the weighthole 6 3/4 out which is basically where the MB marking is on all asymetrical balls. But now I need to know i I shoud (as the website suggests) measure up towards the pin 1 1/8" up and drill the weighthole there, since it is not recommended to drill out the MB for the RICO layout.
