Driller Mistake?

I took my new Virtual Energy to my driller yesterday to have him drill it.  I layed the ball out myself and had the pin about 1" above my ring finger.  He looked at the layout and suggested I move the pin a little closer to my ring finger.  I agreed and left.  I picked up the ball last night, checked the fit and took it home.  When I started inspecting it, I noticed that he drilled the pin about 1/4" from my ring finger and that there was a crack from the ring finger hole to the pin.  I''ve never thrown this ball.  What should I do?  I didn''t buy the ball from that shop (I know, here''s where all the pro shop owners are going to bash me!) but, I did give him $170 to drill 2 balls for me (he also drilled a Virtual Gravity).  Should I ask him for a new ball?

Are you saying they charge $210 for the ball and then ADD $85 for drilling, to put you at $295 for the ball if you bought it from them and had them drill it?

You sort of answered your own question in your two posts.

If you had bought it from the shop he would have helped you out with your problem.  But since you didn't buy it there, he wasn't going to offer support for it.  You also said it would have cost the same to go either way with it, why not just buy it from the shop. The $210 should include drilling, if it doesn't, then yeah, $295 for a ball is stupid, and is amazing that guy gets any business.

Yes.  The $210 is for the price of the ball at the shop (or, actually at any of the 5 shops here where I live) WITHOUT drilling.  Listed on each price sign right underneath the price of the ball is the $50 drilling fee.  Now you're at $260.  Add in grips ($12), slug ($15) and tax and I would have paid $290-300 for the ball thru the shop.  

When I got back into bowling a couple of years ago, I bought a Black Widow Bite from this shop.  The price of the ball with drilling, grips and tax was almost $300.

Unfortunately, any shop NOT owned by this company is at least an hour from me and any shop that is highly rated/recommended is at least 2 hours from me.  Yes, I live in a pretty large city, too.

I'm moving to Indy, it's closer to my mother in Ohio and I could get used to charging $210 undrilled for balls.  WOW!!

AMEN! Sounds like I need to just stop selling equipment altogether and go into the blank drill business. Talk about low overhead! Holy crap.

I am kinda surprised the guy wouldn't at least plug the crack at no charge. Cracks like that happen, and even though your ball driller feels it isn't his fault, after ripping you off for $170 for 2 blank drills, he could have at least "tried" to keep your business.

a short 2 hour drive north would have saved you 100 bucks plus some headaches

pm me, once I have specs for you, visits are not necessary and balls can be shipped and delivered within a day

Wow!! So this shop makes/profits almost $140-150 per ball if purchased and drilled at the shop with grips and a slug.  Man am I in the wrong area or business.  That is just CRAZY!!  Wonder how many garage/basement drillers there are in the Indy area.?.?  I bet TONS making a killing at $30-40 a ball.

Definitely find another driller or use Buddies, as I hate to say it you are getting raped.

HAHA that is no joke! Out side drills run 45 bucks to 55 bucks tops from IBSIA graduates haha and this guy judges your lay out what was he out at all if he drilled it like you layed it out its not like that changes his price at all I am sorry dude some people like that are hard to deal with i would at least have him fix it with some clear plug if its only quarter inch its the least he could do...
