Driller question: Oval thumb placement angle?

I use an oval thumb sleeve, and having been playing around with the angle it's placed in the thumb hole. I've turned the sleeve, so the top (inside of the thumb) is turned closer the the middle finger. (Which tore the skin at the inside top joint.)
Is there a formula for setting the position of the oval? Or is it just by feel?

I don't know of a formula for figuring it.
When I switched to an oval my driller set-up the measuring ball with my specs and then made a mark where the center of the back of my thumb was and then measured the angle with a quarter scale and it worked out perfectly.

Thanks for the reply.
I pulled the sleeves out, and repositioned them back to where I had them, previously.
I have a lot of joint wear in my thumb hinge.
Doing a little experimenting, and thought there may be some time of measurement.
I basically have been setting it to a comfortable angle.

DukeHarding -- The newest Bill Taylor fitting device measures the thumb angle for use in setting oval thumbs.  I've never used one of these, but have seen them demonstrated.  --  JohnP

The best thing you can do is expierment with differnet positions. Which ever one feels better, and works the best is the one you should use.
