Drilling a ball at Nationals....................
« on: March 22, 2009, 05:44:03 AM »
1.What have your experiences at Nationals been?
2.Did you bring one of your own balls that fits really well for the driller to get your measurements off of?? Or,did you bring your drill sheet??
I'm planning on buying a Rogue Cell and a spare ball at Nationals.
Any suggestions/replies would be a great help. And as usual, thanks in advance for all replies...........

I've never drilled a ball there, but know of a lot of people who have.  I have one friend who doesn't have a decent pro shop anywhere near him, so he waits for Nationals every year to buy new equipment.  Overall, positive experiences.  If you don't like the way your stuff fits, then have them measure, but if you're comfortable then just have them copy

I had one drilled once and I wasn't happy at all.  Finger pitchs were missed, span was long, thumb too big.

Other people have had good experience....fwiw.

Do not compare what has happened in the past at nationals to what is
there now.  They are not the same.  The booth that K&K Bowling Services
operates has absolutely the best drillers that I have ever known.  I
would highly recommend them.  They have not had a booth in the past.

I've had 4 balls drilled at nationals the past 4 years 3 at brunswick booth and one at last year's ebonite both.  Surprisingly I've had pretty good luck and all the balls were just matched to a ball I had with me at the time.  I usually don't plan on getting a new piece each year at nationals but always seem to end up with one (which is why I always forget to bring my specs).  Probably not a bad idea to bring your specs with you though so they can match 'exactly'.

I've had one ball drilled at nationals, a Frankie May Gryphon, last year at Albequerque(?), by Frankie May himself(great guy, a veritable fount of knowledge). The fit was perfect, span & pitches were right on. My choice of ball, layout & cover prep? Not so good. It was too much ball for the amount of oil out there, and polishing it wasn't any good either. Oh, well. Live and learn.

No matter what I bought I would have Frankie drill it for me.
