Drilling a ball with mb above the pin
« on: November 26, 2009, 10:11:59 AM »
I am looking to purchase a ball where the mb is above the pin & cg. It is a x-out ball. Can this ball be drilled? Thanks for any advice.

All you need to do is measure 13.5” starting from the center of the pin going directly through the Mass Bias. Once you have a line 13 ½” from the pin, make a mark. This is actually the negative X axis of the ball and could be considered the ‘pseudo’ pin. Use this mark as the ‘pin’ and drill the ball accordingly. Really not too big of a deal..what is the top?

The top weight is 4 1/4 oz. Is there any limitations with drilling this ball? Thanking you in advance.

No...All asmmetrical core bowling balls have 2 mass bias'. One marked and one that is not...180 degrees from the marked mass bias or 13 1/2".

No the pin is the primary. The mass bias is marked 6 3/4" from the primary pin. 180 degrees from this mark is another mass bias. What he is saying is you go 13 1/2" from the marked mass bias through the pin to the opposite side.

When Ebonite first started releasing Asym cores, the MB was above the pin.  It was the Bomb or Bomb's Away.  All those balls were drilled fine, so I don't think you should have a problem.

Its probably an X-Out due to the CG location and the Mass Bias location is the normal marked one, can't say that for sure without seeing the ball but that is normally the case on X-Outs i've come across.
