Fascinating....pin placement....changes track
« on: February 18, 2006, 12:49:06 PM »
yet never see this topic discussed....and the ramifications there-of!

for example...I have a low track....sometimes inverted even...2.5 to 3.5 inches from fingers/thumb...

but if I put a pin...say on the right side of the ball....righty drilling...I'm lefty....it pulls the track....SLAM UP against my finger and thunb holes...very high...

I lose area/mistake room w/this...but gain in carry...until carry-down hits....

thoughts on this subject...experiences...welcome

Sammy, My experiences agree with yours. My pap is 6&1/4 over, 1&1/2 up. When I do any conventional drills I usually just miss the fingers but always track over the thumb hole. For this reason I started trying full roller drills. Pin at 7:30 location in relation to grip center. This did cause the track to change and miss the thumb hole. Ball tracks between fingers and thumb now,but always goes into a roll very early. The full roller drills seem to carry better for me but because of the early roll I have to use less agressive equipment(my benchmark ball would be something like a Slayr).I can drill a ball anywhere from 3&3/8 to 5&3/4 pin to pap and it will miss the fingers but roll over the thumb hole.If I go 6" pin to pap it will roll over the fingers and miss the thumb by going too far right of the thumb! Go figure?
                                      Thanks,

To get an accurate PAP you should use a non-flaring ball, like plastic with a pancake core.  Then when you mark the PAP with a piece of white tape it should appear stationary all the way down the lane.

With true low trackers, placing the pin in any position (such as positive or negative thumb quadrant) that lowers the track's bowtie and reverses the flare will cause the later track rings to be located in the area where the normal early flare rings for a high tracker are.  Does this improve ball reaction or carry?  I can't say, maybe someone else can chime in.  --  JohnP
