Opinions on the "BOOMER" layout.

I'm really thinking hard about trying this layout. Anybody else here try it?  If so, what were your results?

I drilled a ball like this for personal use mainly for experiment.. The ball went long and read very smooth.. Much weaker then label drill. The key to this layout is a long pin- cg or you will end up with alot of excess thumb weight

I could see this being useful if your ballroll is extremely sensitive to wet/dry.  The logic makes sense around the thumbhole going right between the CG and pin, thus lowering the RG of the core much more than a pin down drilling.

There's a guy who bowls in our association who has several balls drilled this way. He's tried just about every drilling pattern you can think of over the years. He'd be better off using a few stable drilling patterns and spend more time practicing and less time in the pro shop.

I have this layout on a weaker ball.  I bowl in a center with OLD wood and above ground ball returns, so chasing the oil left all night is not possible.  This ball lets me move back to the track and still have some recovery that I wouldn't have with plastic.

I have the boomer layout on a Blue Heist.  That ball was selected to try the layout on because #1, it was cheap NIB and had the recommended specs for this particular drilling pattern.  I knew the blue heist would be too much ball for the conditions I face so I adjusted the cover as tame as I could get it, without taming down the backend reaction with delayed reaction, something I have been doing with most of my other balls--this drilling already tames the backend reaction, didn't want to overkill it.

what happens on the lanes is this...When I am using my track flare and playing down & in over the 2nd arrow---once that ball starts jumping too much in the back I can switch to the Blue heist with the boomer layout and stay in the same place and hold pocket. Also, if the lanes are a bit oilier where I can't get a decent reaction with the flare from my preferred starting spot and area on the lane , I can grab the Blue Heist, pretty much stand in the same spot and target the ball further left(I'm a lefty) get it to the outside slightly drier boards very early on in it's ball path and I end up getting an inital early move but because of  this drilling overreaction down lane is prevented and i can get to the pocket that way if need be.

Is it going to track over the thumb for most bowlers??
