Drilling and ball for initial carry-down
« on: January 19, 2004, 09:46:58 PM »
I'm trying to decide what is the preferred drilling for carrydown and a ball to match up with my problem...

I typically bowl in scratch tournaments on house shots around my city.  On these shots I'll have a good first game then when the heads dry out and the oil carries down, my optimum angle of attack suffers (I'm a typical down and in stroker/tweener with a high track).  For example, my rev leveraged V2 Particle will stay in the zone for 1 or 2 games, but when I have to swing it a little more 10 pins crop up.  Then switching to shinier equipment gets me thru the heads, but then not enough turn in the moderate/choppy carrydown.  The shot remains easy and scorable, but I've lost carry.

I was thinking aggressive reactive to pull out next or lighter loaded particle, something that still covers boards in medium to heavy oil, but with a little more natural length than my V2Particle and more backend angle.  Then maybe just a stacked leverage drilling?  Maybe Inferno, Anomaly, Thing, Killer Instinct, XF Reloaded...  Any thoughts would be great...  Thanks!

868!

V2 Reactive Sanded or the best at this.

X factor Deuce, mine works exactly where you are talkin about!

Drilled 4 1/2 X 3 1/2 weighthole on val (line drawn from grip center thru slighthly down cg ) angled out 1/2 inch!  Superb!

In agreement with RMayday.

Both Xfactors have differentials of .58.  Right up there of balls available today!

There was an article about this a few months ago in BTM... hmmm let me see...  ah yes.. the october issue  .  "Carry-down at the break-point will requie the need for an earlier roll in the mid-lane..."  The diagram has a stacked leverage layout with a 75° angle between your PAP and the pin/cg/mass bias.  Basically pin slightly above or below your ring finger with the cg stacked below and the mb in the strong position.  In my opinion, best for this would be a medium to low rg ball with a medium to high differential.  Then just adjust the surface to meet your needs (if the heads break down, a little polish to get it through, etc).
Hope this helps!

buckeye....  I hear you... somehow they managed to get out of the top ten picks this year!!!  This is uncharted territory in the past decade...  who knows... they may actually need to trade up!
