drilling and pin placement
« on: February 25, 2011, 11:21:53 PM »
my son's gladiator pearl has a pin under ring cg kicked right, it rolls to early. we have polished and got a lot of over under. scuffed it and got a little more control, but still inconsistent. now we are to the point where we want to just plug it up and throw pin up drilling on it. my question is: how much do you have to move the pin and cg to really change a balls reaction?

Thank God my Son bowls so I can have a Hero!

I would check the flare separation before you plug it.

If the flares are too tight this will cause issues no matter what the surface is.

I would almost suggest smoothing the surface back up to get desired length and then add a weight hole to a increase the flare.

Surface dictates length and flare dictates how the ball transitions from oil to friction.

when you refer to flare separation are you talking about the distance between the oil rings?

Yes check how much space is between the flares at the farthest point from the bow ties. The tighter or more on top of themselves they are, the more the ball sits on top of the oil creating too much skid. If you open up the flares the ball will roll more consistant.
