I think i know the answer but i am not 100% sure. Is it ok to drill thumb & both finger holes deeper to remove few ounces of total ball weight? It won't affect the ball dynamics will it? Just want to match other benchmark ball so i have same feel during swing.
thanks

You could run into a problem with how much top or bottom weight the ball has. Maybe if the ball has higher-than-normal starting top weight, removing a few extra ounces won't hurt you statically, but if it's got normal top or low top and you put in a weight hole too, removing more weight from the thumb and fingers could (could) result in too much bottom weight.
Probably that wouldn't happen as you're allowed up to 3oz of top/bottom weight after drilling, but you never know.
I doubt you could make more than a 1-2oz difference anyway.
Have you tried sanding that extra ounce or two off? I read a post a while back about a guy who sanded his 16# ball down to 15# because the 16# was too heavy.

Are you serious? That sounds insane.

I'm afraid I'd have to see and measure that ball. Taking a whole pound off a ball by sanding, I'd think, would make it to small to be legal.

As long as the ball meets the specs by USBC it should be good but whats the reason for needing a few ounces gone anyways?
BTW that sanding thing...just don't believe it. If thats true the ball was probably to small by USBC rules. Maybe he went to duck pin bowling...lol

No one has sanded a pound off a ball and seriously tried to use it. It would be too small and the ball pick ups wouldn’t work, the ball would continually get stuck in the back.
The extra weight removed would be towards the center of the ball and would not greatly affect static weights. Although getting a few ounces would be tough.
At most you might get an ounce out of 3 or 4 holes drilled deeper.
You would also have to be careful not to drill the core out and some cores can damage drill bits.
It would slightly affect the RG numbers on the ball.

No. It is.

My Tropical Storm has a 1 inch pin and 3.5 Oz of top weight..
(there is a pic in my signature)
ball has 3 inch deep fingers PLUS it has weight hole above the bridge just to take the weight...
ball bounces over the weight hole just a touch.. but it helps... it can't rover react if its in the air
