Finger hole right in pin?
« on: November 12, 2007, 01:28:40 AM »
What should I expect with this layout? Should I specify a ball with longer pin for this?

Thanks!

It depends on your PAP.  This isn't a "layout"...it's just putting the pin a certain distance from your pap and above your centerline.  Sometimes the measurements make it fall in the way of your finger holes.  It isn't anything special.

Thank you guys! I just learned that it may void the warranty and the ball "may" crack. I don't think I'll do it.

You've learned WRONG!

If you drill out a portion of the pin or if you put the pin too close to a drilled hole,so that the drill angles into the pin (most pins, except those on Brunswick-made balls, go all the way down to the core) and removes the lower part of the pin, THEN the area around the pin may shatter.

If you drill your ring finger hole (the most common finger/pin hole) centered on the pin, then there is NO danger of the pin cracking from the drilling.

The driller can still drill holes badly using dull bits, drilling too rapidly, or not bevelling holes and those can still cause cracking.

If you don't drill directly into the pin, then the pin SHOULD be 3/4" - 1" from any hole for safety's sake.
