Drilling Gurus Help
« on: September 01, 2004, 03:50:49 PM »
My PAP is 4 5/16 over and 1/4 up. My ball speed is around 15-16mph. Not too sure about my axis rotation; but, I believe it is high. 75* or more. I can find out on Monday.
If I were getting a ball drilled by you: what would you layout for medium oiled house conditions with fresh back ends (first shift). Add into the equation that I've had more success in the past with polished reactive solids and pearl particles than pearlized equipment. With this in mind how would you lay out my equipment and why?
If you look in my profile, my favorite reaction (for a long time) has been my Tour Power drilled 3.5*5 with a light shine on it (1000grit polish)
My goal is to get a comprable reaction from another ball. The last two I've tried are way too aggressive. (Super Charge and Flash Point)
I'm hoping one of you gurus can help.

Brian362 -- Have you tried a balance hole on the PAP with your Super Charge and Flash Point?  That will tone down the reaction some.  Go for about 1/2 oz negative side weight.  --  JohnP

That much rotation creates length and then jump when it hits dry.  The Tour Power is a control ball all day long.  You need the ball to check earlier and that is why solids and particle pearls are your faves.  On a typical house shot they both would grab/check up earlier than pearl resins.  Also the 3.5 x 5.0 drilling is an arcing drilling that will set up early, flare the most that ball can and have controlled arc in the ends.  If you get to deep it may not be enough ball or you may experience more over/under or corners all day long.  So all that to say this........

Medium shot get a med-low rg ball in either solid or p/pearl.  Drill it 4"-5" pin placement with the mass bias/cg swung to the right creating and angle from PAP to pin thru cg/mass bisas of 15-30 degrees.  This is a goood bench mark drilling for u with that much rotation.  It will get enought lenght from the shell you choose and the pin placement will keep the ball from hooking to early.  The orientation of the CG/Mass bias will get rid of that "over  reaction" u mentioned.

Balls to think of: Eraser P/P, or V2 Solid (may need to hit that cover for a bit less early reaction ), Big Blue Pearl to name a few.
