What's the recommended drilling speed?
« on: January 26, 2008, 02:08:57 PM »
I'm getting a press that has 16 different speeds available, everything from 200 to 3800. What's the best to use for drilling a ball?

Someone else will probably know the exact speed, but I was always told that slower is better. I think somewhere in the 400-500 range is about right.Fast generates too much heat and that is bad for bowling balls.

Mine is set at 470. Next speed up is 760 and IMO, that's to fast,  but that's just my drill.

Thanks guys! I thought I remembered it being around 500 but couldn't find the post I was looking for using the search feature.

If you keep your bits sharp, 400 to 450 is a good speed. try 400 first.
If you let your bits get dull, you will only be burning plastic and it stinks to high heaven, plus not doing a good job.

I have mine set at 600 and have never had any problems. Never had any balls crack.
