It is extremely difficult to get an accurate PAP location for a customer with high revs who is using a ball with an aggressive core. The ball begins flaring before it ever hits the lane if he lifts it out. Even if he lays it down smooth, you have to watch the tape in the first 5 ft. For some reason it seems the first couple of flare rings don't show up. Maybe the oil is burned off the lanes in the laydown area, I don't know. But when I'm dealing with this type customer, I locate the first rings I can see, then mentally add one or two more when setting my Armadillo. That usually comes out about right. The initial track ring, and thus the PAP, is strictly dependent on the release, but the flare will throw you off if you're not very careful. -- JohnP
