Drilling mistakes: Going to 16 lb. balls from 15 lb. balls.

Just as a warning to others -

Back in July I went back to 16 lb balls from 15s for the first time since 1997 when I had a hip injury.  To compensate for the heavier weight, I drilled some of my favorite balls with stronger pin positions than I had had in my 15 lb balls. My logic was that I wouldn't be able to put as many revs on the 16 lb balls because they are heavier.

Now I regret that action. Once I got comfortable with 16s, I was able to put as many revs and throw as fast as I had my 15s. 15s had always thrown off my timing and release and I had had to take steps to keep in mind the physical process. This distracted me from other things, like adjustments and the like.

In any case, these balls are now significantly stronger than my 15 and there are at least 3, possibly more, that I will have to re-drill to make them perform as my 15s had. Most involve moving the pin only 1" left or right or up and down, but they have to be plugged and redrilled.

In case you're thinking about changing weights, be careful about the drills.
