I can't remember which core can't use the P4 gradient hole. I am thinking it is a symmetrical core because they don't have a mass bias. I am looking at the options of maximizing a balls hook potential (not back end ).

You're right, with symmetrical balls the MB ends up very near the thumb hole, so it's impossible to use a P4 hole. The double thumb layout will probably be what you're looking for. -- JohnP

Any hole 6 3/4 from the pin in the lower right quadrant of the ball will increase the flare. Depending where you put the hole will change how the ball responds to friction. If you are looking for an earlier read and hook then a surface change might be a better choice if the ball will not burn up and roll out from the increased friction.
What ball are you trying to adjust? What layout is on it now?

Maximize hook potential.
Lot of ways that can go depending on the ball, the bowler, and the lane condition.

If you're talking max flare for a symmetrical, pin 3 3/8 inches from pap, place cg where a large hole can be placed 6 3/4 inches from pin, 1 1/8 inches by as deep as the drill will go.
