Drilling question
« on: April 05, 2004, 12:52:10 AM »
I drilled a Piranha Retro recently, got it for a song. 3" pin and 3.25 TW. I am a high rev and high track player with slightly above average ball speed. I set the pin about a 1/8 inch right of my ring finger and stacked the CG directly below. I shined the ball as well.

I bowled on a semi dry condition, synthetic lanes. The ball got through the heads well but pretty much burned out as it got to the pins. Needless to say I wasn't thrilled with the reaction. I normally drill with the pin directly above my ring finger and stack the CG. Would I get a better reaction by redrilling this or can someone suggest a better layout. I know the core is egg shapped with a puck on top, relatively weak from what I've heard. Any info would be appreciated.

Any stacked leverage drilling is going to give you the most hook possible and with your high revs you don't need that.  Plug and redrill and either go pin over the bridge, C.G in palm or pin over bridge, C.G under ring.

Thank you DJ, I've always had good success with the pin over my ring finger and CG dropped directly below. I'll try the layout you suggested, thanks again.
