Bigger weight hole? Reaction?
« on: August 27, 2005, 02:59:06 AM »
I have a Storm Vertigo, it's drilled pin way over ring finger and slightly to the right.  The RAD stacked straight down, next to thumb.  I'm not all that great with drillings but I do know this ball is drilled to go long and snap hard.  Problem is it's just too strong, and it's not handeling the oil well.  I want something to arch and be a lot smoother.  If I take weight out of the weight hole with this smooth out the reaction?  Or should I just plug and redrill?

Before you plug and redrill, I'd suggest trying a balance hole either on or an inch or so inside the PAP.  Target for 1/2 oz of negative side weight.  If you don't like the results, you just have one more hole to plug.  --  JohnP

800!  The thing shines up real fast tho too..., but I don't think coverstock is going to fix this problem, it's really breaking sharp.  I left 9 pins like crazy last night, and I left the 4-9 about 3 times.

Took it to the shop and he says he's going to put in a balance hole as you suggested.  Thanks

I believe that if you drill the weight hole with a big radius and not that deep the reaction will be smooth, and if you drill the weight hole with a small radius but deep, the ball will have a more snappy break to it, i'm not sure, but i think that's how it works.

What you should do is have your driller put a weight hole on your axis point and take it down to maybe around 1/4 ounce of positive weight to tame the reaction.  Also, you can try raising the surface to maybe a 1000 grit to tame the reaction some more.  If you shine the ball, its just going to make it jump harder off the dry.  Try moving around the lane with it to get more in the oil to make it push down the lane before it hooks also.
