Ring Finger through Pin, No Rules.
« on: January 28, 2017, 02:29:14 PM »
I have a question, just out of curiousity nothing more. I have a No Rules and my coach drilled my ring finger through the Pin. What exactly does this do?  The ball rolls perfectly for me and I'm scoring higher then ever.

I'm not completely knowledgeable about Pin placement, layouts, etc. I've always just trusted the professionals. I'm wondering now because I think my coach is about to retire. He's old-school and doesn't use any kind of software like the other guys in the shop.

Any and all info you give me on what drilling through the Pin does, any info on layouts, and what the Pin does exactly would be greatly appreciatted!

The pin is a weak spot on the surface of the ball caused by filling in a hole created in its manufacture.  By drilling it out you eliminate any possibility of the cover cracking to the pin.  Other than that the ball reaction will be the same as any other layout with the same angles and pin to PAP,  --  JohnP

The layout is determined by your PAP. I've drilled the ring finger through the pin on a few balls and for me it puts it at 4 3/8 from my pap and I've had good success with it

I have a few drilled with my middle finger through the Pin. (low track righty) Always make sure your driller epoxy seals the bottom of finger hole where the drilled out pin goes into the core. That will eliminate the potential for water getting inside the balls core.
