What to ask/tell my driller?
« on: November 18, 2008, 07:39:39 AM »
So I just purchased a new ball, and am looking forward to drilling it up. But I want to make sure I do things correctly. Here's my situation:

I bought my first ball 2 years ago, and have been bowling with it since. Since I first got it drilled I have made several modifications to the thumb hold to try and stop myself from squeezing the ball, but I still do squeeze a little. Obviously when I get this ball drilled I want to try and get that fixed. My issue is that if I'm still squeezing the ball, my release won't be the same when I stop squeezing, so how can I accurately tell the driller about where I track or calculate an accurate PAP, so that he can choose an appropriate lay out?

Agreed.  Tell him what your concerns are and let him (or her) watch you bowl.

Ok, hopefully they've got the time to watch. In the event that they can't watch me bowl I should just wait to get the ball drilled correct?

ya......wait or go elsewhere. If they would poke holes in your new ball w/o seeing you bowl.....take it to a seroius proshop. Or else you'll end up with an expensive boat anchor.

Also, should I experiment on my current ball first to try and get the right layout with the driller? Even it it requires plugging/re-slugging it a few times?

they should be able to get a good PAP measurement off of your current ball regardless of the layout. Then discuss with them what you want your new ball to do.......BTW what did you get???

Grabbed a very well priced NIB Heist. I currently throw an Anger, which I love, but the price of the Heist and the desire to fix my drilling convinced me to buy a new ball.
