I have a new ball to drill up and the layout is falling with the pin in the ring finger.  Are there any pitfalls in drilling out the pin?  Do I need to account for pitches tomake sure the pin is completely hit, well into the finger hole?  Now I have it set near the center of the center of the proposed finger hole, but could shift towards the edge, if it works out better.  Any experience, suggestions?

I have multiple balls with the pin in ring finger. No issues with it to date. Mine have the entire pin drilled out.

Milo, I have pins drilled out also and the balls work great.

If the ball was poured in the Brunswick factory I recommend that you drill a 5/8" to 3/4" pilot hole first. 

There is a hard phenolic piece under the pin in their equipment and its better for the bit to "jump" in the pilot hole versus the final hole.

I had no clue that Brunswick did that until I drilled the pin out on my Radical REAX.  When the drill hit that hard piece it scared the crap out of me.  I didn't notice any damage, I don't think the bit jumped, it just made a loud snapping noise when it cut through that piece...  Next time I drill out a pin, I'll use a pilot hole first!

Brunswicks are notorious for hard cores and the piece under the pin. When I drilled my Paranormal, the core was so hard it made the bit jump. nothing too violent but it'll wake you up. LOL! Drilling the pin just makes sense. So many balls with clipped pins I see, end up with the pin cracking out, hairline cracks or just gapping splits in the ball. Its just common sense to drill the ENTIRE pin out.
