question (beginner)
« on: November 21, 2006, 01:53:12 PM »
Hi,
how do I need to drill, assuming someone has a pap-layout like below. (e.g. 6inches to the right, nothing up)

thanks alot!

After thinking about, it's probably layout 1.

with fixed points:

1. distance CG to PAP
2. distance Pin to PAP
3. angle between those two 'lines' above
3. CG must be on the centerline of the grip/drill-holes

is that the way to go?

that would at least produce something like that:

(the cranker one below, what I am probably)

thanks again.

Hi Jeremy,

I actually would like the third layout:
http://www.hammerbowling.com/tech_info/detail.php?drilling=Drilling%20Instructions%202

that in combination with my PAP. I meant that would give something like
http://www.calmar.ws/layout.jpg  (number 1 above, drilling the red points) finally?

would that be correct? Could I go for that?

cheers and thanks a lot,
calmar (marco)

hi Jeremy,

after thinking again I think I really got it now!!

when I have a setup like I want, when I draw a circle around the PAP, basically (only first of all) I can drill my holes *anywhere* on that circle, it will always result on the same. The PAP will stay the PAP, therefore the ball will roll down the lane in about always the same manner (at the beginning).

The only difference in the manner of where I drill my holes around that circle, is, *there* where I drill, I loose weight!. and that actually matters somebit. Not drilling around the CG would increase the Top Weight  (as refered here: http://www.bowlingfans.com/jeff/ballreactionbasics.html ) or so.

So I'm pretty sure I know now how to drill.
Thanks again for taking the time helping me,

marco (aka calmar)

The most often used dimensions other than the ones you've already got are the pin height above the midline or the distance between the VAL and the pin.  Using one or the other will complete your layout.  Also, don't forget that your PAP has two dimensions, horizontal and vertical.  Unless your vertical is 0, you have to take both into account.  --  JohnP
