Drilling x-hole for more length?
« on: February 06, 2008, 07:16:48 PM »
I have a Jolt pearl, 4 1/2" to PAP, Pin under ring, CG 70degree to PAP, with a 2.5" pin to CG. After drilling my ball have 3/4oz thumbweight and 3/4oz sideweight.

Suppose that I want to slightly increase the length of the ball for drier condition:
1)  Can I drill a hole somewhere on the Vertical Axis Line just to increase the length of the ball?
2)  What would happen if I drilled a hole (to remove that 3/4oz of weight) 2.5" under my PAP vs on my PAP?

Any response is much appreciated.

Rule of thumb

Drill a hole on your PAP to decrease flare and delay the reaction.
Drill a hole inside you PAP up or down relative to your mid line to increase flare.

A weighthole in the thumb positive quadrant (i.e below your mid line) will increase the flare and make the ball stronger because if you drill a big enough hole deep enough, you are changing the shape of the weightblock and changing the differential of the ball.

Hope that helps.

is drilling the thumb weight out an option? Just drill the thumb a little bit deeper instead of a x hole.  Also you can decrease the surface (polish).

The best way to accomplish what you're looking for is to drill the thumb hole deeper and take the thumb weight out of the picture.

If possible a really deep thumb hole would be a good move because then you could use a flare reducing balance hole 2.25" above your PAP on the VAL.

It all depends on what the top weight is. Definitely you need to take out the thumb weight, but you may need to also add top or take out top. Come back to me with the top weight then we can decide on where to put the hole. =:^D

Thank you for the input guys. Before, my only option was to drill a hole on my PAP. Now I see other option of drilling the thumb hole deeper to remove the thumbweight. BTW, The topweight is 2.70oz.
