What is the best kind of GLUE?

For doing thumb slugs? If I use the fast drying glue, wneh I hit the thumb slug in the hole, I can't get it all th way in there because it drys fast.

Do I need to use GEL glue or LIQUID glue?

I guess I need something that doesn't dry in the first 2 seconds... maybe something that takes about 15-20 seconds to dry.

MASTER sells a glue... does anybody know if it is a GEL or LIQUID and how long does it take to dry?

Or is there a glue that I can buy locally?

Does certain kinds of glue work better with bowling balls, and do I need to stay away from certain kinds of glue?

I don't know anything about thumb slugs, but on finger grips I use Duro Super Glue Gel because it sets up instantly and on the regular liquid super glue it doesn't. Not for me anyhow. I have to press on grip for a few seconds with the liquid type.

So the MASTER Super Bond is a liquid and DOESN'T dry instantly? I thought that the liquid Glue's that are out there, dried almost instantly... or at least the ones I've tried do.

Is the MASTER Glue made up of a special formulation or something?

On a spare test ball, that I tried with just regular glue, I got the thumb slug half way in and it was dried THAT QUICK! I had to cut it off and re-do it.

i dont know anything about that glue, but something that holds anything is gorilla glue, but you would not want to use that on a thumb slug or grips.

I did try the Gorilla glue on a slug, and it did not hold.  I even misted the glue in the hole with water (this type glue relies on moisture to set) before inserting the slug.  I normally use the two part epoxy for slugs.  You have plenty of time to insert the slug, but it has to set for a day before it can be drilled.  --  JohnP

We use a glue that is manufactured by a local guy (Barry Warshafsky).  If memory is correct he calls his glue Grip-Lock or something like that.  You can drop him a line at:  barryswinnerspro@cs.com  or do a google search on his name to find his pro shop phone numbers.

The problem that you have putting in slugs can be over come very easily.  When you drill your 1-1/4 slug hole keep the ball clamped in your jig.  Put the glue into the hole (about 1/2 below the surface of the ball) and grab your thumb slug to be inserted and another slug.  Partially insert the slug that you want to glue in.  Next, place the secondary slug on top of the other and use the press's chuck to push the slug into it's final position.  

I've been using this method for a long time and have never had a problem getting a slug in.  Just make sure that you don't put glue in the location that the air vent slot is going to be positioned.

Pss... this might e a stupid question...

But, does it hurt anything if Glue is put in the hole near/where the "vent/slit" is.. why do I need to be cautious of that? Or is it just a preference thing?

I dont know why you would try to use Gorilla Glue on that bc you would never be able to get the slug out after it dried. I can glue anything together with that stuff, wood(witch i moisten) then every thing else i didnt get itwet and the stuff holds liek pottery, rollers onto the bottom of a feet rest that kept coming off and more. My dad tried to put this peice of trim wood on the tub and couldnt get it to ever hold and this glue with hold it forever now, he couldnt belive i got it to hold

I've used a product called Zap-A-Gap it is an instant bond glue that is cheaper than the Master Super bond, and it's the exact same product. there is also a sister product called Slow-Gap, which takes about a minute to set which we use on slugs to we have a few momment to grab a slug and pound it in.

I use a high strength epoxy adhesive can't remember the name.
Most of the super glues are chemical bonding agents which actually liquify the 2 parts you are bonding together more like a weld, this is not good for the ball and can cause cracking.
